Habitat: On sandy soils derived from both limestone sandstone with Pinus, Juniperus, and Artemisia. Weber Formation. Uncommon on moist sites.

Occurrence Remarks: Salix melanopsis Nutt., det. by R. Dorn, 1993. / Salix exigua Nutt! Leaves silky-hairy both sides, not at all glaucous; too low an altitude. Det. by W.A. Weber, 1995.
