Mancos Shale. Almost flat area on barren desert pavement of broken calcareous chips, clayey soil and rock crevices; ca. 50% vegetated with Artemisia nova, Helianthella microcephala, Orthocarpus sp., Townsendia lepidota, grasses and other spp. locally common but not seen elsewhere in [park].
Paratype. [Flowering/fruiting individual attached to sheet from isotype COLO# 541772, collected 26 May 2011]. NAD 27; 7.5 Willow Spring quad; just beginning growth ; plants rhizomatous, forming dense mats up to 1 ft. in diam.; leaves grey-green, tomentose-cobwebby; heads just appearing; ray and disc flowers yellow;
