On flat to gently sloping ridge in gravelly soil; sagebrush community with Balsamorhiza sagittata, Eriogonum umbellatum, Castilleja flava, C. chromosa, Astragalus convallarius var. scopulorum, Phlox hoodii, Penstemon cyathophorus.

7.5' Mount Powell quad, NAD27. Cretaceous Pierre shale. Multi-caudexed clumpforming plant with fleshy based stems; flowers yellow, rays 5-8; common.
