Riparian, south slope; associated with Celtis, Cercis, Vitis, Ampelopsis, Populus, and Melia.
Tree 25 feet high; bark longitudinally furrowed, dark gray; twigs light grayish-tan; staminate catkins so numerous as to give the tree a yellow cast; flowers fragrant.
