Intermountain grassland ringed by mountains with Pinus ponderosa woodland. Associated species include: Stipa comata, Elymus elymoides, Koeleria micrantha, Monarda fistulosa, and Symphoriocarpus occidentalis. Thousands of plants, vegetative and reproductive, line several intermittent drainages in large patches. Additional small patches occur in the adjacent uplands. Pinus ponderosa savanna occurs at the forest-grassland interface.
