United States, Wyoming, Park, Ca 15 air mi E of Cooke City, 3 mi by road N of U.S. Highway 212, ca 1/4 mi NY of Clay Butte Lookout.
2987 meters 9800 ft.
Windswept, S-facing alpine grassland, 30% slope near ridge top. Soil shallow, brown, gravelly clay. 25% bare ground, the vegtative cover mostly of mat-formers.
With dominants: Silene acaulis, Smelowskia claycina, Carex nardina, Oxytropis (yellow), also with Koeleria cristata, Erigeron compositum, Lomatium cous, Trisetum spicatum, Poa cusickii, Arenaria obtusiloba, Potentilla ovina.
