Rare; no more than 5 plants occur at this locality, montane coniferous forest w/ Holodiscus, Pseudotsuga, Fragaria, Ribes, Rosa, Symphoricarpos. Growing from diagonal crack in cliff face ca. 50 m S of creek. The locality is shaded and moderately moist.

Paratype of Polypodium saximontanum Windham; Citation-Contr. Univ. Michigan Herb. 19: 49. (1993). / Polypodium saximontanum Windham, det. by M.D. Windham, 1993. Original ID: Polypodium amorphum S. Sawtooth Mountain Quadrangle. Five intact sporangia yielded ca. 64 spores each. Spores in this sample show an average length of 68.5 micrometers. Voucher specimen for chromosome count n=74 II det. by M.D. Windham, 1982.
