Habitat: Openings in Pinus ponderosa-Pseudotsuga menziesii forest in dry gravelly soil, on gentle NE facing slope; with common assoc. Chrysothamnus sp., Oreocarya thrysiflora, Picradenia richardsonii, Stipa comata, Carex obtusata, Koeleria macrantha. Common and widespread. Precambrian granodiorite to quartz monzonite substrate.
Reproductive Condition: Flr
Occurrence Remarks: Flowers mostly red, varying to pink. 7.5' Harvard Lakes Quad.
