Small fen with a few small rivulets; lower two thirds dominated by Sphagnum and Carex.
Plants densely packed, with distinctly dark red-brown tops, on raised relatively dry tussocks (looking somewhat like S. fuscum, but stems pale); stem leaves acute, with merely a resorption notch; branch leaves with large pores, not minute nor ringed near the leaf apices.
