On flat gently sloping ridge in gravelly soil; sagebrush community with Balsamorhiza sagittata, Eriogonum umbellatum, Castilleja flava, C. chromosa, Astragalus convallarius var. scopulorum, Phlox hoodii, Packera sp., Penstemon cyathophorus. 7.5' Mount Powell quad, NAD27. Cretaceous Pierre shale. Tightly clumped bunchgrass; stems reddish; spike beige, shiny; locally common.
