United States, Colorado, Fremont, Phantom Canyon, W of Penrose and running north from junction of Pueblo-Canyon City road to Victor and Cripple Creek. A stand of several trees along the road on benches near the head of the canyon 6 mile below Victor.
Seed cone
Trees with straight, unbranched main trunks; bark darker than in P. flexilis and supporting large foliose lichens (Flavopunctelia and Melanelia). P. flexilis grows on rocky knolls away from streams, and the very pale bark is barren of lichens....
