Habitat: Restricted to caliche outcropping; very common along highway verge as well as across the fence.

Occurrence Remarks: Penstemon versicolor Pennell, det. by W.A. Weber, 1995. Original ID: Penstemon nitidus. Flowers bright blue-purple; stems ascending, not erect, basal leaves present at anthesis; inflorescence secund (usually given as not secund!); all petals flaring; staminode broader, whitish, recurved at apex....
