Common in disturbed soil and in openings of the sagebrush climax. Gravelly soil.

Stems erect or ascending , not over 4 dm. high; corolla deep sky-blue (very bright) throughout, or throat more purplish blue, tube pale whitish; sterile filament yellow-bearded. Flowers a lighter blue than strictus nearby.
