In barren gravelly soil at edge of road and meadow W of road; with Arctostaphylos uva-ursi, Ipompsis aggregata, Potentilla hippiana, Picradenia richardsonis, Erigeron vetensis. Precambrian grandodiorite.

7.5' Buena Vista E quad. NAD27. Leaves glaucous; stems single or several from branched caudex; anther sacs puberulent, fully dehiscent across connective, divergent; flowers purple; staminode densely bearded; occas. locally. Leaf tissue taken for DNA anal.
