Open Pinus ponderosa-Pseudotsuga menziesii forest with occasional Populus tremuloides and scattered Ribes cereum, Symphoricarpos rotundifolia, Cercocarpus montanus, Holodiscus dumosus understory in dry gravelly soil on gentle NE facing slope; occasional mats becoming abundant under aspen at higher elev.; Precambrian granodiorite to quartz monzonite substrate.
