Among rocks & on gravelly margin of rock ribbons streaming down moderate slope of well developed tundra from ridge above. Substrate of Tertiary andesite. Widespread. Scattered clumps.

Flowers blood-red. With Deschampsia cespitosa, Senecio fremontii ssp. blitoides, Festuca saximontana, Erigeron pinnatisectus, Chionophila jamesii, Carex chalciolepis, Tonestus pygmaeus. 7.5' Jones Hill quad.
