Near head of drainage bounded by steep sandy gravelly slopes with Amelanchior utahensis, Juniperus osteosperma, Lathyrus brachycalyx, Lepidium montanum. Locally common. Permian Cutler Formation.

7.5' Gateway quad. NAD27. Stems leafy to soil surface; bracts bright red, cut more deeply in back; corolla green; most plants in this area appear intermediate between C. scabrida and C. chromosa.
