On hillside with mature crested wheat bunchgrasses. Surrounding vegetation is pinyon-juniper and big sagebrush.

NAD 83. A single plant growing spontaneously just this year. The stem was cut about 10'' above ground after the plant went to seed, and the base was observed sprouting new leaves in April 2013. Photographed in bloom 4 September 2012.
